Abstract

The present paper is an attempt to make a classification of the groundwater of the Chamarajanagar Taluk , which falls under Chamrajanagara District, Karnataka, India using various methods, having an area of 1222.50 sq.km. The water field of hydrogeochemistry has been created for the analysis of the quality, contamination, chemical properties and its reactions in the groundwater. The quality of groundwater for various purposes largely depends on the chemical nature and behavior of the various chemical constitutes present in the groundwater. The groundwater samples are analyzed for the major cations and anions such as Ca, Mg, Na, K, Fe, HCO3 CO3, SO4, NO3, Cl and SAR,CaCO3 water facies and hardness etc. with the standard values of bureau of Indian standard (BIS).The chemical quality of groundwater in any area is influenced by various factors such as climate, hydrological conditions, chemical properties and physical characteristics of soil and geology etc. The sources of groundwater contamination is either natural or anthropogenic or both. According to World Health Organization ((WHO), about 80% of the diseases in human beings are caused by water. Hence, proper knowledge and understanding of the quality and chemical constituents of groundwater becomes very important.
